Service Ministries

Serving God and Neighbor

Check out our on going ministries. We also have plenty of volunteer and service options that pop up thorughout the year so be on the look out for announcements on those!

Mat-Making

Sleep Mats is a part of UMCOR International Methodist Missions.  It serves local community, national and international homeless needs. The mats are woven completely from plastic shopping bags.  The bags are collected/donated locally. Then they are flattened, folded, cut, tied into strips and woven together on a table top loom. This makes a large mat approximately 30″ X 68″.  Mats create a moisture proof, critter resistant, and thermal insulating barrier under bedding. Workdays are the first and third Thursday at 1:00 at the church.

If you are interested in joining in please call Florence Hacklander @ 507-526-2720 or Joni Jenkins  @ 651-307-8316. Please leave a message and your number.

MMDC Depot Drop Off

Hope serves as a collection site for the Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC). MMDC is a supply depot for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCORE). Throughout the year, MMDC puts on lists of needed items, and we serve as a collection site. We also take periodic trips to their facility in Jefferson, Iowa to help serve as volunteers.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

If you enjoy knitting we would love to have you help create prayer shawls for our community. These shawls are available in the library for people to take and bring to those in need of prayer. Or grab one for yourself.

The group knits at their homes and brings them to church.

For more information contact Nancy Steinke- nesbe3@gmail.com or Lois Ankeny 507-526-3939

Church Bus

Because of Hope’s location north of the interstate, it’s not pedestrian-friendly from Blue Earth.   Soon after our building was built, the Trustees purchased a handicap-assessible bus with wheelchair lift.   Each Sunday morning, it makes rides available to those requesting pick up for worship services.  Simply call the church office by Friday noon and we’ll arrange to stop by your residence and bring you home too.   The bus is also available for other events at Hope and for the youth to travel.

If you would like to help drive contact Al Roesler

Lord's Acre

This is a decades old missions program from a couple of our congregations.   It still thrives!   A sign-up sheet in the Narthex by the drinking fountains shows “Farmers” and “Renters” who generate funds through our strong farming area.    Those who sign up meet once a year and give to local, national and world-wide missions.   Church camp scholarships, planting corn in Africa and Safe-T-Homes are just three recent Lord’s Acre recipients.

Worship Team

We need many volunteers to make Sunday worship happen.

We need ushers, greeters, liturgists, nursery room attendants, tech booth workers, singers and muscians.

If you would like to help with worship contact the church hopeumc@bevcomm.net

Kitchen Ministry

Food and faith are a match made in heaven and because of that the kitchen is a busy place in the church.

If you would like to assist in the kitchen please contact Megan Hanson Haase – (507) 525-1744 or hansonml@bevcomm.net

Safe T Homes

in 2022, Hope raised funds to purchase, ship and put up FIVE Safe-T-Homes through Go-Serve Global, a recent non-denominational organization based in Northern Iowa.   We are currently working on our SIXTH!

Each Safe-T-Home provides shelter for a large family or up to 35 people in areas of the world subject to hurricanes and/or earthquake.   Each costs $7500, so this is a good example of Hope’s generosity in “sharing our abundance” in missions.
