Lent Day 10
Lent Day 10
Hymn: “Jesus Loves Me”
Favorite Line: “Jesus loves me this I know”
Why” “Because the Bible tells me so”
This is the second time we have focused on a children’s hymn. And maybe I shouldn’t call it a children’s hymn, and maybe I should just call it a hymn. Because that’s what it is. It is a hymn that speaks the truth and message of Jesus Christ. I thoroughly enjoy the reasoning behind this person’s selection. It’s just the next line of the hymn. Why do you like this line? Well, let me give you the second line. It’s genius. Specifically for this hymn, it works really, really well. The Bible does tell us so. The Bible, time and time again, tells us that Jesus loves me and you and everyone. One of my favorite places in which the Bible tells us so is in the book of Romans.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake, we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39)
This passage tells us the extent to which Jesus loves us. At that is an infinite amount. There is nothing that you or I can do to separate us from the love of Jesus Christ. And it doesn’t mean most or a lot; it means nothing. Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ. And once we begin to accept that then it follows that we have to love others in that way as well. If we are called to live a life like Jesus then we also have to love in this way. Or, at the very least, try to live a love like that. Try to love in that way. And know that Jesus’ love will surround us when we struggle and fail. When we screw up and fail to love, Jesus will still be right there to love. Why? Because Jesus loves us. The Bible tells me so.
Grace and peace,
